About Craig

Born in Birmingham, Craig showed early promise as a singer, being named Choirboy of the Year in 1992–93. He went on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, completing a BA (Hons) in Music followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Singing with distinction.

After graduating, Craig continued his training at the Mariinsky Academy for Young Singers in St Petersburg, becoming the only British singer to be offered a place. This period played a defining role in shaping his musical approach and professional outlook.

On returning to the UK, Craig began working with Welsh National Opera, performing in a range of productions and contemporary operas. Roles include Mark in Wild Cat, covering Evan in the world premiere of James MacMillan’s The Sacrifice, and John Jones in Errollyn Wallen’s Carbon 12. Alongside his performance work, he has been a long-standing vocal animateur with WNO, delivering participatory and outreach projects across Wales and the UK. This has included performing hundreds of concerts in hospitals and healthcare settings, bringing live music directly to patients, families and staff, often for people unable to access traditional performance spaces.

Craig was the inaugural winner of the Welsh Young Musical Theatre Singer of the Year competition. He was also accepted for the late Yehudi Menuhin’s scheme Live Music Now!, the largest outreach organisation of its kind in the UK and performed hundreds of concerts, benefiting those who are otherwise excluded from the joy of experiencing live music.

Only Men Aloud and touring work

Craig is a long-standing member of Only Men Aloud, one of Wales’s most successful vocal ensembles. With the group, he has won BBC One’s Last Choir Standing, received a Classical Brit Award for Best Album, released two top twenty albums and taken part in numerous sell-out UK tours.

International highlights include touring across Europe, the USA and Asia, as well as performing at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

In addition to performing, Craig plays a central role in the organisation and running of Only Men Aloud, overseeing musical decisions, tour planning, repertoire, arrangements and the day-to-day management of the group.

Creative leadership and youth work

A core part of Craig’s career has been supporting and developing young singers. In 2012, he helped to create Only Boys Aloud, becoming a choir leader and later Deputy Music Director. He has also been closely involved in the development of Only Kids Aloud.

Craig is now Creative Director of The Aloud Charity, where he leads the artistic vision across all programmes. His work includes setting repertoire, maintaining high musical standards, mentoring choir leaders, developing education projects and expanding the charity’s reach across Wales. He has led and conducted five Only Boys Aloud Academi courses, guiding the group through intensive training programmes, and has led them on international trips to Japan and France. Craig has produced and conducted large-scale performances, concerts and recordings, and has led the group at major prestigious events, including the Coronation Festival at Windsor Castle.

Under his leadership, the charity works with boys, girls and young people from a wide range of backgrounds, creating inclusive, engaging and ambitious singing opportunities in schools and communities.

Education, outreach and workshops

Alongside his charity work, Craig is an experienced vocal animateur and workshop leader. He works regularly with organisations including Welsh National Opera, Wales Millennium Centre and National Youth Arts Wales, delivering outreach projects designed to engage people who may not otherwise have access to live music-making.

Craig also teaches singing and leads vocal workshops across the UK, working with young singers, emerging professionals and community groups. His approach combines technical development with confidence-building, musical curiosity and enjoyment.

TV and broadcast work

Craig has extensive experience performing for television and broadcast. His singing work includes appearances on programmes such as Doctor Who, Songs of Praise, Strictly Come Dancing, GMTV, BBC Breakfast and Sports Relief, working across live broadcasts, studio recordings and large-scale televised events.

Alongside performance, Craig has worked behind the scenes in a coaching and educational role. He was a singing teacher on the two most recent Gareth Malone television projects, Easter Passion and Messiah, supporting and preparing singers for broadcast performance.

Current work

Craig continues to balance performance, creative leadership and education, bringing together professional experience and a long-standing commitment to participation, quality and opportunity.
